In 2017, Antonio Tajani was elected President of the European Parliament. He is a member of the European People’s Party and founding member of the Italian centre-right party Forza Italia. Antonio Tajani started his career as an officer in the Italian Air Force and worked as an Air Defense Controller. Later, he worked as a professional journalist for several Italian media (Il Settimanale, RAI 1 radio, Il Giornale). In 1994, he was elected in the European Parliament for the first time, and was reelected in 1999 and 2004. He was Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for Transport from 2008 to 2010 and for Industry and Entrepreneurship from 2010 until 2014. In 2014, he was reelected in the European Parliament.
